Summer Reading Programs

Slides are typically fun in the summer! Except, when we’re talking about the “summer slide”, the term used to refer to the decline in reading skills over the summer. Students can lose up to three months of reading skills over the summer, if those skills aren’t practiced (texaschildrens.org).

Luckily for us, there are so many great summer reading programs out there to help encourage and motivate kids to read during the summer. Most are completely free (all listed here are) and kids can earn some pretty awesome rewards. Even better, most of the work is done for us. Many only require a quick registration to participate. No need to make handmade trackers or anything!

Take a look at the ones I have listed below and hopefully you’ll find one (or more) that will be a good fit for your little reader. Don’t forget to check with your local library too! Most local libraries have reading and summer activities as well!

With love,

CC
